West Cork was quite simply born out of our love for West Cork!
Born and raised here in Bandon the natural direction for family holidays and weekends away throughout our lives has been 'Wesht Along'! The memory bank from the 80s and early 90s overflows recollecting long beach days you didn't want to end, BBQs in the dunes, playing evening GAA on freshly cut pitches to Irish College on Cape Clear.
Adult life brought creamy pints in Baltimore, Schull and Glandore, camping trips to Glengarriff, hikes in Lough Hyne, Sheeps Head & Seven Heads and endless coffees and until the kids arrived and we started revisiting our old childhood haunts all over again.
From Kinsale to the Beara Peninsula, West Cork is the most Southwest corner of Ireland.Rolling countryside and a stunning coastline stacked with headlands and sandy beaches, West Cork is a haven for foodies and artistic talent are world class bars, cafés and restaurants in the area. Also, there is a huge amount of artistic talent here. As regards art, we have been showcasing the amazing local talent for many years in The Grey Heron and before this, Bandon Craft Centre. And it's amazing to see the new West Cork Film Studios open in Skibbereen!
Starting off, West Cork Folk aims to invoke a feeling of pride in the area....we know there is already but our products can be used as a constant reminder! We have teamed up with Bandon based Lovato Candles who have made our new range of candles. We started off with Barleycove, Fastnet, Beara and Baltimore and we have more in the pipeline. We collaborated with Badly Made Books to make our Barleycove Notebook. Finally, we have socks and totebags on the way....and there's more to come!
We'd like to give a special mention to Clonakilty's
Nína Cáit. Nína Cáit has done all of our graphic design. We worked with Nína when we rebranded Bandon Craft Centre to The Grey Heron. We're absolutely delighted with our new West Cork Folk branding and with the illustrations and design she has done for our new range of products.
Anyway, thanks for stopping by...hope you like what you see. Any questions, give us an email hello@westcorkfolk.ie. Don't forget to follow us on instagram @westcorkfolk :)
